Love Bug!

Lilly has never been super cuddly, but times, they are a changin'! Well, to be fair she's still not snuggly BUT she's a total love. I swear that every morning when I pick her up out of her crib she says "Hi" and gives me a hug. Her hug is just kind of holding on tight and putting her head to my shoulder, but it's something. (Truth be told she may not actually be saying "Hi" but I think she is...and I can believe whatever I want, right?)

She's also started giving kisses. She absolutely loves eskimo kisses...she puts her forehead to yours and moves her head around. Truly, she loves it and she usually ends up breaking out in giggles. And just today she grabbed my face with both hands and planted a big one on me. Obviously she can't really kiss so it's just her open mouth on my face, but it's still pretty cute.

So, she may never be the snuggle bug that Ben is, but she's a lovey and I'll take it!

Terrible (and Terrific) Twos

These days I am not sure what is meant by "terrible twos". Initially I thought it meant temper tantrums, but as Ben approaches 3, I think the terrible-ness is more about power struggles and discipline issues. Pretty heavy stuff! Ben is (and always has been) "strong willed". An example from just yesterday...Ben puts a ping pong ball fully in his mouth, to which I say (exasperated) "Ben, take that out of your mouth - you could choke". Ben "Ok, I'll just lick it". Me: "no, it's dirty" to which Ben continues licking but not actually touching it with his tongue. "Look Mom, I can do it like this". He's always pushing the limits and testing boundaries - which keeps us on our toes.

But he really does have a terrific, sweet sensitive side. He often tells Nate when he's getting ready for work "Dad, I am really going to miss you while you're gone". He's also quite introspective for a 2 year old - when we were at the grocery store he left his buddy somewhere and I picked it up and then gave it back to him in the car. We talked about keeping a special eye on things that are important to you. After a few minutes of silence he asked "Mom, what's important to you?" We talked about it (Ben, Lilly, Daddy, our home, my keys). Then later when we got home he asked Nate what was important to him (Ben, Lilly, Mommy, the Steelers, Villanova Basketball) and then at dinner he told us what was important to him (Lilly, Mommy, Daddy and Lion Buddy - but not the other buddies). He really thought about it for awhile and was deliberate about his response.

While the twos can be (and have often times been) a struggle, I think it's fair to say that I will miss them when they're gone. I'm sure that all too soon it will not be cool to say "Mom, you're my bestie" or "Dad and I make a great team"!

Blue Rocks

(This is Nate) Took Ben to his first baseball game the other night - Wilmington Blue Rocks. While he didn't actually watch any of the game, Ben did manage to eat two hot dogs, about three bags of chips, five pink lemonades and talk to approx. 25% of the patrons, including fanning the pitchers warming up in the bullpen.

And yes, he brought his buddies with him....

50%

(This is Nate) I'd say this picture accurately represents how Ben feels about Lilly around 50% of the time...

Poke A Nose

(This is Nate) Courtesy of the very generous and patient Larry and Laurie, we spent a great weekend in the Poconos a little while back. Ben got to swim in the lake, play in the sand, play some video games at the arcade, take a ride in a kayak and generally relax. The takeaway: Kris and I now getting to play "Laurie and Larry" with Ben...this seems to have surpassed "Jackie and Rubby" for the time being. Extra kudos to Kristen and David for taking Ben into the lake - he didn't want to stay out.

The Fourth of August

(This is Nate) So no posts for July and its now August. No good. Hopefully Kris will pull together a nice Picasa album of pics for the summer in the next week or two (hint, hint)...however, in the mean time, a few pics from our GREAT trip to Latrobe for the Fourth of July (hosted by the best hosts/party planners/Gumby enthusiasts around, Jackie & Rubby Roble):

All the cousins getting ready to watch the race (Crocs apparently v. fashionable)

Dan, stopping into Latrobe between Korea and Japan or something (is that a direct flight?)

The proper way to enjoy a 9 am parade with kids

Ben's ready for the parade!
